I received an invitation to a networking event today. Not unusual, you might think, but this particular event was one at which I found myself before my business was even in its infancy. Before I even had a single client, I stood in front of my fellow event delegates and nervously introduced myself to the room, describing myself for the first time as a consultant.

You have to speculate to accumulate

The reason this is significant is because this email invitation that pinged its way into my inbox as so many do made me realise just how far I’ve come since I started up Jule Wilson Communication less than three years ago, and not only me but many of my clients too.

You see today I’m also in the middle of writing an impact report that demonstrates clearly that my efforts have positively impacted the bottom line and the organisation’s wider reputation alike, and that after all is what it’s all about.

I love results like this, that prove indisputably the benefits of investing in communication and also reassure me that my strategy’s been on point.

I’ll be honest though; I rarely find myself in a position where I can deliver such a positive report, because despite my best efforts, clients are often a little quick to throw in the towel, and I hate to break it to you, but results take time.

How often do you see a TV ad or one online and instantly make a purchase? My guess is probably rarely if ever, and in that case why so often do organisations assume that customers are going to seek you out instantaneously when your communications have barely got started?

The fantastic results I’m in the process of reporting on have come about as a result of the cumulative effect of the repetition and consistency of messaging over time, placed on the right channels and in front of the right audiences, because of a well thought out strategy.

Knowledge is power

There have been no shortcuts, and the investment has paid dividends. It will continue to do so with continuous effort. But I’m no miracle worker. To achieve real and lasting results, I need you to work with me in partnership to achieve your goals, whether that’s helping new customers find you or keeping existing stakeholders happy and engaged. After all, no one knows your business better than you and that expertise can help me to devise the best strategy for you. Together we can achieve great things.
